UP NORTH- KANO EDITION

Hello amazing people,

Your  Favourite Ajala is back fully and my journey to visit 25 states before turning 25 continues!!! If you are a first time reader on the blog , kindly read about my journey here firstly.

Over the past few weeks , a group of other adventurous friends and I explored 4 northern states and this trip was one of the most exciting and daring trip I have had to take during the journey especially since I have always wanted to visit the north but something keeps preventing it but not this time . After planning for the trip for a few months , we were set to explore the north . We flew into Kano on a bright and beautiful Tuesday afternoon and were graciously welcome with the cool breeze of the city yet very scorching sun. After getting our bags, we requested for a bolt who took us to the Porto golf resort which was an hour from Town .
On our way, we stopped by a pit where blocks were made and took some lovely photos .

The Porto golf resort offers beautiful scenery which consists of a lake, lush greenery, and a calm environment. As soon as we arrived , all I was thinking about was how I wish we were going to be here for longer then planned as the serenity was second to none . We checked in, had lunch then relaxed before we went on a short boat ride on a dam in the resort . We retired to bed and this ended our first day in Kano .

Our initial plan was to spend 4 days in Kano but we had to reduce it to 3 days cause our time of visit doubled with the same time they were bringing in a new Emir of the town and hence we could not visit some places on our list . Nonetheless, our adventurous spirit were ready to explore all we could on day 2 and we started our exploration with visiting the Gidan Makama Museum which was established in 1440 AD. The museum was the first palace of the emir while the present day palace is just opposite the museum .

From the museum, we proceeded to Dala hills which one could see an overview of the entire city of Kano from the top and it was such a beautiful view to behold. DaDala Hills in Kano is a must visit! Find out more here Click To Tweet

After we took some pictures and videos, we left the hill and went in search of the ancient city wall of Kano which we had been told about in the museum earlier. Locating it was a chore especially the language barrier but thankfully one of us could speak Hausa and that helped us a great deal .We finally found the ancient city wall of Kano which were ancient defensive walls built to protect the inhabitants of the ancient city of Kano. The wall was initially built from 1095 through 1134 and completed in the middle of the 14th century. The Ancient Kano City Walls were described as “the most impressive monument in West Africa. We got dinner, played and left to our next state in the morning.

A few things to note :
-Kano’s sun was no jokes even with my sunscreen and I was always dehydrated but still I had a great time and would gladly go back again if an opportunity pops us.
-You must cover your hair at all times as a lady
-Fruits are so fresh and affordable in Kano
-The tourist attractions are close to each other so you can easily visit all of them at once .

Kano is officially my 18th state in my journey to visit 25 Nigerian states before turning 25. I would be sharing about the other states I visited in the north in the upcoming posts . Can you guess what state is next ?
