After what seems like Forever, I finally made it to Nike Art Gallery, Lagos with two amazing People(Stanley and Anu) which is one of the Art centres owned by the Amazing Chief (Mrs.) Oyenike Monica Okundaye otherwise known as Mummy Nike. The Lagos gallery is located in Lekki and is barely 5 minutes from my present office.
Nike Art Gallery is a five storey building which is home to over 10,000 Unique artworks, sculptures, paintings and more all by Nigerian Artists. From the very entrance of the gallery, we were welcomed by giant sculptures made from tires, plugs and things we couldn’t have imagined.
On entering the Gallery, a Staff welcomed us and gave us a brief instruction, stating that we couldn’t take pictures of the artworks alone but we could use them as a background for our pictures. Just as we were about to take the stairs to the first floor, there was a power outage which wasn’t restored. I was hurt cause I had really anticipated taking lots of pictures. We just went round and admired the artworks we saw but I would try going there again. You can see a few pictures that I took.
After a short while, we decided to leave and I took some more pictures.
A few things to Note:
-There is no entrance fee to enter the gallery
-Prices of the Artworks range from thousands of Naira depending on the Artwork
-There is a cafe there where you can easily buy souvenirs.
I wish we had the opportunity to see more artworks or possibly meet Mummy Nike herself hopefully when next I visit. Nike Art Gallery is such a beautiful place with so many lovely pieces and it hurts me that I couldn’t show you all of the lovely things. Still, I recommend the Art gallery for you to visit.
Have you been to Nike Art Gallery before? What was your experience like? If you plan to visit here soon and need help in locating the place or have further questions please reach out to me.
Much Love From Your Favourite Ajala!
